Original Commentary

It's a one-panel comic because we felt that it brought out the monotony of the situation. Anyhow, a heel is the "bad guy" in the plots. Like Hollywood Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, or The Undertaker. The wrestling federations are, I believe, called "promotions", officially, but I thought the term would confuse people. And it's not unusual for wrestlers to have different characters in different promotions (or even within the same one). I fondly remember watching WWF wrestling, you know, back when they were the WWF. I should mention right now that my brother once sold a pair of camouflage pants to Sergeant Slaughter - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Wrestlers having to change their ring name is pretty much a WWF/WWE thing. That's because that way they own the name (and its merchandising rights).

Most other promotions, wrestlers just keep using the names they've been using on the independent scene. If you're paying a guy who's made himself (or herself) well-known, then you may as well use that to your advantage.

I was going to mention how John Cena is one of the few wrestlers to use his real name and, as such, comes out ahead on things. That would be fortunate for him, since he was one of the most popular wrestler of the 2000s. Turns out that WWE owns the rights to his name, which really doesn't seem right to me, but he knows his own legal situation better than I do. - Terrence
