I'm a computer technician. Common sense goes out the window when you're dealing with your own equipment. When I fix my own stuff, I click away error messages without reading them. I assume the cables are connected properly. I restart the machine a couple times in the hope that will fix things. It takes a bit of effort to actually approach the problem properly - Terrence

Isolate components to find out where the point-of-failure is. That's what my father, as an electrician, taught me. If a lamp won't turn on, you make sure it's plugged in and the bulb is good before you rewire the outlet...
