Another Golden Emilyism... there's got to be at least one or two classic Emily moments by now... of course, just because they are classic, doesn't make then good. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
I like this exchange. One of the reasons I'm re-lettering this whole thing is so I can add emphasis in panels like the final panel here- Terrence

Original Commentary

Oh Emily... your single mindedness is almost inspiring. Almost. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
Why would Emily lie about where she was going? A reasonable boyfriend wouldn't mind if she hung out with friends.

But Emily probably hassled David for spending time with his friends, so it'd be hypocritical if she did the same thing.

So instead she lied about where she was going. Sheesh - Terrence

Paying attention

Original Commentary

It's a story we've heard before... but of course it's still quite new to Emily and Sofia, who are both disquieted and taken aback by it... I'm sure it makes Jane look very weak to them, and desperate.... taking back someone who must have hurt her so. Or at least that's how they see it from the outside. They can't see Jane's feelings for Robert, and, despite everything, really deep down still cares for him... perhaps in a slightly different, mature way. Or maybe Robert just looked too cute in his little fake business causal outfits that she couldn't... resist- ok, maybe that wasn't it. Let's go with the first thing. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
No comic is really meant to stand alone; you need to know who's who and what's going on. But the first panel is because we like to remind folks what's going on. - Terrence

Original Commentary

...and now we find out a new piece to the puzzle of Robert and Jane. And perhaps a bit more about Sofia... actually, no. I wrote this arc, but asked Terrence about this comic and wanted his thoughts on it. He basically said Jane took it the wrong way. -Isabel

Modern Commentary
I had misremembered there being more in the comic that implied Sofia was bi.

There wasn't. That middle panel is it. We hadn't ruled it out but never seriously considered giving Sofia a girlfriend either. - Terrence

Original Commentary

Robert's first defining character trait is that he can become paralyzed by fear of doing wrong, or by shame of having wronged someone. That's why he never told Jane or anybody else. Isabel and I know what it is - it's not one of those events that never get clarified. I meant to deal with it a long time earlier, but never got around to it - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Robert's past gets clarified. I think because Isabel threatened to not let me write any more if we didn't. - Terrence

Original Commentary

I'm sure Emily thinks she's really sneaky. She probably also doesn't think she's gossipy either - Terrence

Modern Commentary
Emily could have waited. They were probably going to watch a movie or get dinner or somemthing.

But, well, Emily.

Jane is going to have a better time this way anyhow - Terrence
